Aswan

In the boundary site between Egypt and Nubia, the Milan-Pisa mission directed by Edda Bresciani through 1970 and 1971 identified and studied the temple erected by Ptolemy III (245-221 BC), in honor of the goddess Isi “who is in charge of the army”; the temple was converted to church during the VI century and there are traces of Christian paintings on the temple’s pillars. All the studies concerning the temple, its hieroglyphic inscriptions and demotic and greek graffiti, as well as blocks of other sacred buildings recorded during the excavations were published in a volume in 1978.
