Negli ultimi decenni, nell’immaginario collettivo la figura degli antichi egiziani che erano alla base della produzione materiale ha fluttuato tra varie dimensioni, spesso conflittuali tra di loro, da “schiavi” ad “artigiani”, da “lavoratori” ad “artisti”, senza mai trovare un’univoca forma rappresentativa. Questo volume, dunque, si propone di analizzare i meccanismi della produzione materiale in Egitto durante l’Età del Medio Bronzo (ca. 2000-1550 a. C.) alla ricerca di una sua più complessa comprensione, al fine di allontanarsi da una serie di preconcetti moderni per avvicinarsi ad un più autentico profilo che gli antichi artigiani egiziani avevano di se stessi, attraverso l’analisi delle loro parole, delle loro immagini e dei loro artefatti. I contributi del volume hanno lo scopo di fornire un’analisi innovativa sul network di relazioni tra materiali ed esseri umani, sulla circolazione delle idee e sui profili sociali delle persone coinvolte nella produzione materiale dell’antico Egitto.
